Environment Ministers Reaffirm Commitment to Biodiversity Conservation

Ministers responsible for environment of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam issued a joint statement reaffirming commitment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to the three objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) namely the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources. The Ministers further reaffirmed their commitments to implement the CBD Strategic Plan on Biodiversity for the period 2011-2020 and the achievement of the Aichi Targets with the mission “to ensure that by 2020 ecosystems are resilient and continue to provide essential services, thereby securing the planet’s variety of life, and contributing to human well-being, and poverty eradication”.
