The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and the French Regional Delegation for Cooperation in ASEAN conducted a workshop on ‘Climate Change for Policy Makers from ASEAN Member States’, 18–19 June 2014, in Hanoi, Viet Nam.

This 2-day-workshop gathered 20 officials from ASEAN countries and officials from the ASEAN Secretariat to contribute to the Asia-Europe dialogue on climate change issues in preparation for the upcoming Sessions of the Conference of the Parties to be held in Peru and France in 2014 and 2015 (COP20 and COP21).

Presentations on the status quo of climate change talks have complemented small group work and discussions as well as a negotiation simulation. The training equipped participants with practical information about international and regional processes related to the COPs agenda. It also fostered understanding of the importance of regional coalitions in the climate change negotiation process whilst providing a dialogue platform for ASEAN countries to work on common understanding of challenges for ASEAN with regards to the COPs’ outcomes.

The workshop was a joint collaboration between the ASEAN Secretariat, French Regional Delegation for Cooperation in ASEAN, the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF). It was sponsored by the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
