CANCUN, 13 December 2016 - The ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) launched a documentary video on the Small Grants Programme (SGP) that aims to improve biodiversity conservation and the livelihoods of people in the ASEAN Heritage Parks (AHPs). The video was launched on the sidelines of the 13th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity held in Cancun, Mexico on 2-17 December 2016. The event was graced by the presence of Atty. Roberto V. Oliva, Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity; Mr. Saroj Srisai, Assistant Director of the Environment Division, Sustainable Development Directorate of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Department, ASEAN Secretariat; Dr. Berthold Seibert, GIZ Programme Director; and Ms. Ratna Kusuma Sari, Deputy Director of Implementation on International Convention Indonesia, among others. The project sites are ASEAN Heritage Sites in Indonesia and Myanmar which include Gunung Leuser National Park and Way Kambas National Park (Indonesia); Alaungdaw Kathapa National Park; Indawgyi Lake Wildlife Sanctuary; Meinmahla Kyun Wildlife Sanctuary; and Nat Ma Taung National Park (Myanmar). We are still at the early stage of implementation of the SGP in Indonesia. ACB and Indonesia have a very good working relationship and I am looking forward to future events and activities related to this project, said Ratna Kusuma Sari, Deputy Director of Implementation on International Convention Indonesia. In Myanmar, we encourage collaborative protected area management. As much as possible, we are trying to involve the community living in the buffer zones in conservation efforts in the protected areas. The ACB has been instrumental in the effective implementation of the project in Myanmar, said Win Naing Thaw, Director of Nature and Wildlife Conservation Division, Forest Department of the Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry Myanmar.
