The ASEAN Plus Three Youth Environment Forum (AYEF) 2016 with the theme ?Imagine, Create, and Change? was held on 8-10 April 2016 in Singapore, co-organised by the National Environment Agency (NEA) Singapore and the ASEAN Secretariat, and co-funded by Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Jakarta Office and ASEAN Plus Three Cooperation Fund. The event was held in conjunction with Youth for the Environment Day (YED) Singapore. The Forum was attended by a total of 184 youth participants, including youth representatives and chaperones from AMS and China, as well as local youths and volunteers as part of Singapore?s Youth for the Environment Day (YED). The opening of the Forum was held on 9 April 2016 with opening remarks by the Ms. Adelina Kamal, Director for Sustainable Development Directorate ASEAN Secretariat, and Ms. Sueanne Mocktar, Director of 3P Network Division, NEA Singapore. The plenary presentation on the role of youth in sustainability presented the following speakers: Ms. Amal Afifah Rusali (President of Environmental Youth Envoy of Brunei Darussalam), Dr. Angela Lee Hui Mien (Head of Sustainability of IKEA Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand), and Mr. Low Min Chye (Vice Chairman, Environment Functional Group in Southwest Community Development Council of Singapore). H.E. Mr, Masagos Zulkifli, the Minister for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources also participated as one of the panelists in the plenary discussion with the youths. The forum comprised also a field trip to Tuas South Incineration Plant to learn the problems and constraints that Singapore faces in the�management of its solid waste; experiential trail in Jurong to showcase lessons from Singapore's initiatives to reduce the amount of household waste; workshop on design thinking to better understand the fundamental cause on the waste issues. Upon the completion of the workshop, the participants were requested to propose ideas and solutions using their acquired design thinking for waste minimisation projects. [ws_table id="14"] The youths who are able to implement their proposed projects in their respective countries within one year will be granted AYEF 2016 Certificate of Excellence in addition to Certificate of AYEF 2016 that has been distributed to the participants in the closing ceremony, signed by NEA and ASEAN Secretariat. Each AWGEE National Focal Point will monitor the implementation of the proposed projects in their respective countries.
