2014 ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable Cities Award and Certificates of Recognition
The ASEAN Environment Ministers conferred the 3rd ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable Cities (ESC) Award and 2nd Certificates of Recognition for Clean Air, Clean Water and Clean Land at the sideline of the 15th Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment (IAMME) on 30 October 2014 in Vientiane, Lao PDR to the following cities:

The Presentation Ceremony was held at the National Convention Centre, Vientiane, Lao PDR, attended by all 15th IAMME delegates, the Chairperson of the ASEAN Working Group on Environmentally Sustainable Cities (AWGESC) and National Focal Points, City Mayors and officials, and AWGESC Partners.
Trophies and certificates were presented by H.E. Mr. Noulinh Sinbandhit, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Lao PDR and H.E. Mr. Say Samal, Minister of Environment, Cambodia, on behalf of the Environment Ministers of ASEAN Member States, to the City Mayors of ASEAN Member States or their representatives.
In the welcoming speech at the Presentation Ceremony, H.E. Mr. Noulinh Sinbandhit, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Lao PDR expressed hope that the awardee cities would become “a model that inspire other cities to emulate, with replicable and up-scalable practices and policies to help deliver urban environmental services that are “pro-poor, low carbon, environmentally sound, resource efficient and recovery oriented”.
The cities receiving the Award were selected based on their respective national criteria for environmentally sustainable cities, while the cities receiving the Certificates of Recognition were selected based on a competitive basis using the ASEAN Key Indicators for Clean Air, Clean Land, and Clean Water, in the categories of small cities (with a population of 20,000 – 750,000 people) and big cities (with 750,000 – 1.5 million people).
The 1st and 2nd ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable Cities (ESC) Award were conferred in 2008 and 2011, respectively.
