ASEAN Heritage Parks are defined as “protected areas of high conservation importance, preserving in total a complete spectrum of representative ecosystems of the ASEAN region.” These areas are established to generate greater awareness, pride, appreciation, enjoyment, and conservation of ASEAN’s rich natural heritage, through a regional network of representative protected areas, and to generate greater collaboration among AMS in preserving their shared natural heritage.

The Enhanced Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument (E-READI) has been supporting the development of the Investing in Sustainable Natural Capital in ASEAN over the past 20 months, under its overarching dialogue on the environment and climate change. The report assesses the status of natural capital among the 10 AMS and proposes the recommendation for an ASEAN Natural Capital Roadmap.

The ASEAN Biodiversity Outlook (ABO) is a concise report on evaluating the ASEAN’s efforts in achieving the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011–2020 and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. It showcases progress and lessons learned in biodiversity conservation in the ASEAN region. The contents of the first two editions of the ABO were synthesised from the ASEAN Member States (AMS) fourth and fifth national reports, respectively.

Under the umbrella of Health, the ASEAN Workshop on Biodiversity and its Links to Human Health in an Urban Context, and Capacity Building on Therapeutic Horticulture as an Example of the Links, led by Singapore and supported by BCAMP, is being organized in coordination with ACB and the ASEAN Secretariat. It consists of two parts — a virtual event in 2021 and a two-day capacity building workshop in 2022. The activity will tackle the linkages between human health and biodiversity, particularly the health benefits from nature through therapeutic horticulture.

The ASEAN Heritage Parks (AHP) Conference is held every three (3) years with the aim of enhancing knowledge-sharing and fostering camaraderie and networking among AHP managers, AHP Programme Committee members, members of the ASEAN Working Group on Nature Conservation and Biodiversity (AWGNCB), as well as selected stakeholders and partners. The ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB), as the Secretariat of the AHP Programme, leads the organising of the Conference.

Outputs 1: Improved knowledge and skills of selected staff and researchers of botanic gardens, academe, and research institutions on the use of application of the DNA barcoding for taxonomic identification on vascular plants.
Output 2.1. Published taxonomy of common vascular plants of the mount Makiling Forest Reserve, an AHP, which will contribute in building and improving the taxonomic knowledge in the tropics.
Output 2.2. Modified the CBD protocols (BOLD) in using the DNA barcoding tool for use in the tropics.
