The project includes lecture, laboratory training, and field trip with three key objectives as follows: (i) To provide an overview of the chemical composition of oil, the fate and behaviour of oil in the marine environment and effects of weathering on oil fingerprinting; (ii) To allow AMS to enhance their capacity in oil fingerprinting and spill source identification technique such as PAH fingerprint analysis, biomarker fingerprint analysis, and carbon isotope ratio analysis; and (iii) To assist AMSs to develop a national oil fingerprint library as a forensic tool for the identification of the source of the spilled oil and tarballs in order to protection of the marine environments from oil pollution.
