In driving the implementation of the Strategic Priority 3 under ASPEN, Thailand, in the 18th Meeting of AWGWRM held in 2018 in Myanmar, expressed interest to take the lead for one of the outputs of the Programme 3: Water Conservation and has later submitted the proposal for the development of “ASEAN Guidelines on Water Resources Conservation” with specified activities.

To fulfill its commitment, in 2022, Thailand organized the online “Workshop on Status of Water Conservation, Climate Change and Ecosystem-based Adaptation in ASEAN” for discussing and exchanging information on the status of water conservation, climate change and ecosystem-based adaptation in ASEAN countries as part of the Programme’s activities under its leadership.

In order to make further progress to the development of the Guidelines, the Department of Water Resources (DWR), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), as Thailand’s AWGWRM national focal point, has proposed to organize, in 2023, the 1st Consultation Meeting for Development of the ASEAN Guidelines on Water Resources Conservation in Bangkok, Thailand.
