The Regional Training Workshop on the Development of National Action Plan on Marine Debris and Evidence-based Policy Making for Sound Solid Waste Management in AMS will be held on 26-28 September 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand, co-organised by IGES, IDEA, Geoinformatics Center (GIC)/Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), and ecommit, The Workshop is part of the implementation of the project titled Strengthening Capacity for Marine Debris Reduction in ASEAN region through formulation of National Action Plans for ASEAN Member States and Integrated Land-to-Sea Policy Approach (Phase 2), which started its implementation in January 2022. The Project is funded by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) and currently being implemented by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).
The Regional Training Workshop aims to provide knowledge on: (i) the importance of National Action Plan (NAP) development, (ii) the outline of plastic monitoring and estimation tools and methodology, (iii) the utilization of Waste Flow Diagram (WFD); (iv) conducting necessary primary and secondary surveys including the questionnaire and field sampling with certain technologies; (v) how to identify (plastic) waste hotspots and pathways from the land to waterways; and (vi) evidence-based policy making to improve MSWM and mitigate plastic pollution.
