ASEAN Eco-schools Award Programme

As part of the ASEAN Eco-schools Programme, the ASEAN Eco-schools Award aims to recognise exemplary efforts of eco-schools in ASEAN Member States (AMS) in inculcating environmental awareness in every aspect of education to their students and surrounding communities.

The 1st ASEAN Eco-schools Award was held on 17 July 2012 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in conjunction with the ASEAN Environment Year 2012, and hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Malaysia. The 2nd ASEAN Eco-schools Award was held on 29-30 July 2015 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar in conjunction with the ASEAN Environment Year 2015, and hosted by the Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry of Myanmar.

The latest or the 3rd ASEAN Eco-schools Award Ceremony was held on 8 October 2019 in Siem Reap, Cambodia, as part of the ASEAN Environment Day (AED) 2019 at the sideline of the 15th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment (15th AMME). The 3rd ASEAN Eco-schools Award Ceremony is co-supported by the Government of Japan through Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) and Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF).

The prestigious Award is conferred to two schools in the category of Primary and Secondary Schools from each AMS, which was selected based on the ASEAN Guidelines on Eco-Schools which was adopted at the 13th Informal Ministerial Meeting on Environment (IAMME) on 18 October 2011 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

ASEAN Youth Eco-Champions Award (AYECA)

The ASEAN Youth Eco-Champions Award (AYECA) is an ASEAN initiative to recognise proactive youths as young AMS citizens who have made outstanding contribution in protecting the environment and realising a clean and green environment in his / her respective country and within ASEAN region. The AYECA is designed to engage potential youth recipients to spread their positive attitude towards the environment to a wider community.

The prestigious award is conferred to two youths in the category of Junior Youth (18-25 years old) and Senior Youth (26-35 years old) from each ASEAN Member States (AMS) at the celebration of the ASEAN Environment Day (AED) 2019 who have been active for at least two years and successfully implemented green initiatives within the past five years.

The 1st AYECA Award ceremony was organised by the Ministry of the Environment of Cambodia on 7 October 2019 in Siem Reap, Cambodia, back-to-back with the ASEAN Eco-Schools Award at the sideline of the 15th AMME.

The AYECA supports the implementation of the AWGEE Action Plan under the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Blueprint 2025 to promote cooperation on environmental management towards sustainable use of ecosystem and natural resources, particularly through the encouragement of environmental education, community engagement and public outreach.

This 1st AYECA Award Programme was co-supported by the Government of Japan through Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund and Hanns Seidel Foundation.

ASEAN Youth Eco-champions Award 2019 (AYECA) video
